  • A Brother Needs our Help. Please Help

Brothersand Sisters in Islam Asslama O Alaikum:

We are making this appeal for fund raising for our youngest brother. Our brother, Kashif Malik was working in Saudi Arabia as an Electronics Engineer in Riyadh. Last month, he had a severe road side accident in which he received a severe back bone injury which has rendered most of his body paralyzed. He is a very young man of 26 years of age and was married recently. Four of us are living here in Toronto all recently immigrated from Pakistan (under Independent category). He is younger to all of us and we want to bring him here for better medical facilities. We have sought opinion of doctors here and they say he has good chances of recovery here due to sophisticated medical treatment facilities. We want to bring him here as soon as possible for better medical facilities and he should be brought here as soon as possible to avoid any further damage.

We are already negotiating with Lyndhurst Hospital Toronto, which has sophisticated treatment options for such patients. The hospital cost alone is $650 per day. Doctors' fee and medicines are at top of it. We need an amount of $70 000 in order to get him in the hospital for a four-month rehabilitation program. Unfortunately none of us is in such a position to afford it financially. We therefore appeal to all our brothers of Islam to help us in this cause. Brothers who want to give the Zakkat can also send Zakkat Money (we have already checked with religious figures that he is eligible for zakkat). In this regard we opened an account in his name so if any brother wants to deposit some funds directly. Kashif Malik is under treatment in Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital,

  • Muslims gear up for Islam's 619th founding anniversary in the Philippines

Millions of Filipino Muslims in the southern Philippines are gearing up for the 619th founding anniversary of Islam in the country in November. Nazif Ahmad Abdurahman, a mayor of Tawi-Tawi province, said a grand celebration will be held in the town of Tubig Indangan Simunol on November 8 to commemorate the occasion.

Prominent civic and community Muslim leaders, including Saudi Arabian envoy to the Philippines Saleh Mohammad Al-Ghamdi, will come to grace theevent. The first mosque in the country, believed to have been built by the pioneer Muslim preacher, will be among the centers of the celebration. Sheikh Karimul Makdum, an Arabian missionary, scholar and judge, introduced Islam to the Philippines. Makdum arrived in Mindanao, the Philippines second largest region, on November 8, 1380, and stayed there for months to propagate the words of Allah.

Although alone and new on the island, "Makdum became successful in convincing natives to believe in God," said Abdurahman. The Philippines', Asia's only predominantly Catholic nation, is also home to an estimated 16 million Muslims, mostly based in Mindanao, about 900 kilometers south of Manila.
